Missing 5 wrestlers due to illness, the Coffee County Red Raider wrestling team failed to gain a match victory on Monday night in the Tullahoma Border War dual meet. More importantly, Coffee County dropped 3 crucial district matches which eliminated them from the possibility of competing in next week’s Region 5 Duals that they will host. “Giving up 30 points before you ever hit the mat is hard to overcome against any competition” said Red Raider head coach Roger Barlow following the meet. Coffee County fell 42 to 27 to Franklin County, 60 to 22 to Shelbyville and 66 to 18 to Tullahoma who won the team championship.
Regardless of the disappointing team result, there were several strong individual performances from the wrestlers that were able to compete. Josh Tobitt continued his strong January performance as he was 3 for 3 on the night with 3 pinfall wins. Tobitt wrestled at 182 pounds in 2 of his matches and took the mat in the 195 pound class against Franklin County. Michael Pressley(170) got pinfall wins against Franklin County and Tullahoma. Dustin Seals(285) got a pair of pinfall wins over Tullahoma and Shelbyville. Owen Teague(145) scored a pin against Shelbyville and a decision win versus Franklin County. And Rein Bozich(138) scored a forfeit win against Franklin County and a major decision against Shelbyville.
The CHS grapplers return home on Thursday night as they welcome Smyrna and Warren County to their home dojo at the Coffee County Raider Academy. The dual meet will get underway at 6 PM. The Region 5 Dual meet will be held on Thursday, January 28th and will be held at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gymnasium.
