7/15/15 —- Maude Stewart Womble
Maude Stewart Womble, was born on November 19th, 1922 in Estill Springs, Tennessee to Oscar Alderson and Bessie Bell Ward Stewart. She passed away at Life Care Center in Tullahoma, Tennessee on July 12th, 2015 after a prolonged illness.
She moved to Tullahoma at the young age of fifteen and started to work at Owens bed spread factory and later at Smotherman-Womack Wholesale Grocers. It was there that she met James Frank “Shug” Womble, and they were married in November 1947. He preceded her in death in 1971.
One of her greatest passions was her family. She raised her children in a home full of love, laughter and strong faith. She was happiest when she was caring for others, so it was natural that when her children were raised, she worked caring for the very young or the elderly and infirmed. She worked in several day care centers and was a companion to many seniors living in the Tullahoma area.
Her other great passion was her faith. She was a member of Hickerson Station Church of Christ for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for over 35 years.
At the age of 82, when the day care center where she was working closed, she found another passion…Art. She became an accomplished watercolor artist with works displayed from Tennessee to California. She even served on the board of directors at the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center.
Aside from her parents and husband, Mrs. Womble was predeceased by three brothers, Vernon Stewart, Murray “Mug” Stewart, and Brooks Stewart; four sisters, Ruby Tucker, Inez Moore, Dora Moody and Ora Lea Ferrell; daughter-in-law, Wanda Womble; and grandson, Dustin Overby.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Brenda Arnold of Tullahoma and Brenda’s daughter, Laura Arnold Warren of Memphis; Frankie Womble of Knoxville and Frankie’s sons Dale (Elizabeth) Womble and Robert Wombleof Knoxville; Georgia (Randy) Norton of Byhalia, Mississippi and their nieces Debbie Swann Cornelius and her son Michael and Kayla Swann; Bruce (Tammy Overby) Womble of Walland, Tennessee; Tammy (Richard) Sheller of Harvest, Alabama and Richard’s daughter Amy (Patrick) Martin of Lancaster, California; her great-grandchildren, Teagan, Nicholas, and Xavier Martin; sister-in-law, Ava Lea Womble of Lynchburg, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 14th, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 15th, 2015 at 3:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Ray, Minister of Hickerson Station Church of Christ and her great-nephew, Jamie Byrom, Minister of Bethlehem Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will follow at Smith’s Chapel Cemetery in Moore County, Tennessee.
The family would like to send a special thanks to all the staff at Life Care Center of Tullahoma for their unwavering support and care given over the past few months.
